How will the Ti SensorTag reconnect automatically to my iPhone?

“When I have a connection successfully establish, but moved the iPhone more than 25 meters away from the TI SensorTag the connection is interrupted. Why is the connection not reestablished automatically?”

There are two options you can choose from to get a connection:

  • Manual Reconnection
To safe battery life of the TI SensorTag the original firmware of Texas Instruments tells the sensor to go into sleep-mode when no connection exists. To wake up the TI SensorTag again you have to press the button on the side of the red silicon case of the TI SensorTag.

TI Sensor Tag Reset

  • Automatically Reconnection
To automatically reconnect the TI SensorTag to your iOS device you have to upload the MyWeatherCenter firmware to the TI SensorTag. In this firmware the sleep mode is disabled. Instead only every 320 ms data is transmitted from the SensorTag to your iPhone. Use this guide to install the MyWeatherCenter firmware.
Note: with the new firmware the SensorTag will not use the sleep mode, therefore battery lifetime of the SensorTag can be reduced.
How can I update the firmware of the TI SensorTag?

We created a firmware that disables the sleep mode of the TI SensorTag. This allows you to reconnect your iPhone automatically to the TI SensorTag.

To update the firmware use this illustrated guide.

Do I have to put the TI SensorTag in a water protected area?

The TI SensorTag is not water protected. Therefore it is important to put it in a place where no rain or snow can damage it.

Examples for good places:

  • Under the porch roof
  • In the entrance of the house
What is the maximum distance between the TI SensorTag and the iPhone?

If there are no barriers (walls, windows, etc.) between your iPhone/ iPad and the TI SensorTag the maximum distance is around 25 meters. If there are things in between the distance can be shorter.

Estimote Beacon

What is the maximum distance between the Estimote Beacon and the iPhone?

If there are no barriers (walls, windows, etc.) between your iPhone/iPad and the TI SensorTag the maximum distance (according to Estimote) is around 70 meters. If there are things in between the distance can be shorter.

Is the Estimote Beacon waterproofed?
  • The case made of soft silicone is waterproofed. You can install them outdoors but please note that Bluetooth radio signals are heavily absorbed by water, so rain will reduce the beacon’s signal strength.
  • Also consider that operating beacons in temperatures over 60°C (140°F) or below -10°C (14°F) can reduce battery life.
How can I connect the Estimote Beacon to the app?

To get the temperature from the Estimote Beacon you have to grant the MyWeatherCenter app access to it:

  1. Login at https://cloud.estimote.com, click on “Apps” and get your Default Mobile App data (App ID & App Token)
    Estimore Cloud Configuration

MyWeatherCenter App

Why is no weather data displayed in the app?

There are two ways how to get weather data:

  • From your local sensor. If you don’t have a sensor, you can get one here!
  • From the Open Weather Map database. Check their website for any problems with the weather data server.

If you don’t have a weather sensor, check if the app is allowed to use the geolocation service to get your current location. Go to “Settings” -> “Privacy” -> “Location Services” and set it to “on” for the MyWeatherCenter app. Without your location no weather data can be displayed!
